PBIS CALL TO ACTION
● FLY GRAND OPENING A HUGE SUCCESS – FASHION DOLLARS FLOWING
Our FLY opening was a spectacular success – our students spent incredible amounts of Fashion Dollars on Friday – they love the store and all the rewards and privileges that we offer to them. Understanding this reality, use Fashion Dollars the right way including:
(1) Aligning the distribution of Fashion Dollars to the school’s problem of practice involving rigorous student tasks. Reward students with Fashion Dollars for trying challenging activities during a lesson. We need to positively reinforce rigor and move away from just reinforcing compliance and basic class participation.
(2) Verbalize out loud for the entire class why a student is receiving Fashion Dollars. You are not getting the full impact of this reward system if the student does not hear why they are receiving Fashion Dollars. You are not getting the full impact of this reward system if the entire class does not hear why a specific student received Fashion Dollars. This will result in all students clearly understanding why they are being distributed and will motivate students to produce similar behaviors.
● REFERRAL FEEDBACK
We understand there have been glitches in the new referral system – we would like to get your feedback on the referral form – please complete this brief survey and then use the results to make appropriate changes: https://goo.gl/forms/c41PAt0MnLaq3xFh2
● HELP NEEDED WITH LUNCH APPLICATIONS
We collected over 100 lunch applications this past week and are now below 400 - the entire school community needs to contribute to this collection effort. HSFI would look a lot different without the close to $1 million dollars that we receive based on this collection.

● SOCIAL EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE PD SESSIONS MONDAY
On Monday, we will be running professional development sessions on Social Emotional Intelligence that picks up where we left off from the first day of school’s Yale University presentation. All of these PD sessions will take place in Room 724 during periods 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 – you are welcome to attend any of these sessions depending on your schedule – attendance at one of these sessions is required for all teaching and guidance staff - the PD session that you attend is your choice. I would encourage all staff, regardless of title, to attend one of these sessions. The sessions will be run by our own staff that attended the Yale University conference during the summer – thank you to Lexi Parisse, Amanda Padron, Chelsea Stambouly and Kelly Conaghan for stepping up to run these sessions. We will run additional PD sessions on Social Emotional Intelligence on Election Day and then again in December. We will then begin work on the creation of a ‘HSFI Charter of Feelings’ that outlined what we want to feel within our school community
● GRADES DUE ON WEDNESDAY
Follow the instructions for STARS CLASSROOM placed in your mailbox. Remember: We are using single numeric grades from 65-100 as per our new grading policy. 55 is the one failing grade.
● DO NOT PLACED CLUB / ACTIVITY FLYERS AROUND THE BUILDING
Flyers for clubs and activities will be placed on the ‘Student Activities Bulletin Boards’ on every floor. Do not post these flyers yourself (or by your students). Get them to Student Government via Mr. Rau or Ms. San Jorge and they will posted in these locations. In addition to these bulletin boards, we have the whiteboards in the lobby and TV screens to market these activities.
● COPY CENTER ISSUES BEING ADDRESSED
We are fully aware of the problems with the copiers and the need to have the Copy Center running smoothly – we just completed a purchase order for a whole set of machines to make sure everything runs smoothly. Thank you for your patience.
